Addressing The Whole Black Child: Culturally Relevant SEL
Friday March 14, 2025 10:10am - 10:55am PDT
Take a quick deep dive into the complexities of culturally relevant social and emotional learning particularly pertaining to Black students. While the state standards are not inherently problematic, they do require some nuance and this session aims to highlight the various ways that these students may be approached with a different understanding. This session will be illuminating on not just how to identify behavioral markers, but also how to take actionable steps to break cycles from learned adaptations and correct patterns not conducive to success, inside the classroom and out.

I Wish My Students Knew...
Friday March 14, 2025 12:40pm - 1:25pm PDT
This session will offer a unique perspective from the future teachers at Port Clinton High School. Inspired by their book study of I Wish My Teacher Knew by Kyle Schwartz, these aspiring educators will share ways teachers and staff can support students through grief and explore ideas for schools to create a culture that develops character. However, none of this is possible if teachers and school staff members don't take care of themselves first. While these can be tough topics and conversations, this session will celebrate the transformative power of public education.
