Port Clinton Social Emotional Learning & Mental Wellness Symposium

Take a quick deep dive into the complexities of culturally relevant social and emotional learning particularly pertaining to Black students. While the state standards are not inherently problematic, they do require some nuance and this session aims to highlight the various ways that these students may be approached with a different understanding. This session will be illuminating on not just how to identify behavioral markers, but also how to take actionable steps to break cycles from learned adaptations and correct patterns not conducive to success, inside the classroom and out.  

Research shows that games can significantly contribute to social-emotional learning (SEL) by providing opportunities for students to practice skills like empathy, self-monitoring, collaboration, and decision-making in a safe and engaging environment. Come see a demonstration of games that have been effectively used in the classroom. Participants will actually play the games and receive packets of the games to use in their own classrooms with their students.  

In this session, participants will explore strategies to build staff morale and address teacher burnout through a focus on relationships, culture, and support. It will provide actionable tools and real-world examples to help educational leaders create a school culture that values its educators, inspires collaboration, and enhances overall morale.
